For Maddi, it all started with a tall guy. Literally. She'd often spot Chad, with his (ridiculous) height, around the San Diego Rowing Club. Though their paths crossed in the mornings, Chad, a self-proclaimed early-morning grump who hadn't yet embraced contacts, remained blissfully unaware of Maddi's existence. It wasn't until January 2020, when a swipe right on Bumble brought them together, that their story truly began.

Those initial weeks were filled with the excitement of a new connection, including a rather memorable moment when Chad's best man, Kyle, playfully (and suspiciously!) commandeered Chad's phone to verify Maddi's authenticity via text. Maddi even sought a second opinion from a fellow rower at the club, who enthusiastically endorsed the match, exclaiming, "Oh my god, absolutely! I love Chad, I can't believe I didn't think of that before!!"

Then came March 2020, and like the rest of the world, their lives took an unexpected turn. What was meant to be a short stay with Chad and Kyle quickly morphed into a year of living together. This immersive experience, while unconventional, became the crucible for their relationship. The close quarters and constant companionship brought both challenges and unexpected joys. Their attempts at rowing doubles together, a clash of coach versus stubborn student, proved… educational (and likely a one-time event!). Yet, navigating these waters, along with countless game nights, walks with their dog Riley, more than a couple drinking competitions, and the regular company of their friends Matt and Jema during that time, forged a deeper understanding and stronger communication between them. After that year, Maddi and Chad got their own place, and a little while later, their family grew with the addition of their second dog, Harper.

Through it all, they discovered what they truly cherished in one another. Maddi adores Chad's "downright silliness" that never fails to make her laugh, his deeply caring nature (even if expressed in quirky ways), and how his calm demeanor beautifully balances her own vibrant energy. Chad is captivated by Maddi's "relentless outgoingness," her drive to pursue her goals, and her open-hearted acceptance of the unknown.

They've built a unique bond, evident in Maddi's remarkable tolerance for Chad's "incessant singing" (a feat his own siblings couldn't always manage!) and Chad's subtle (very subtle) acknowledgment of Maddi's humor. Their shared love for rowing remains, though they've wisely decided to keep their oars in separate boats.

And now, as they stand on the brink of this new chapter, they are filled with excitement. While their engagement may have been a while in the making, and their journey together even longer, they eagerly anticipate the joy of marriage. More than anything, they are incredibly grateful to have you all join them to celebrate this special night. They hope you have the best time ever!
